We’ve made key updates to OORT’s tokenomics to enhance decentralization, increase transparency, and ensure the ecosystem's sustainability for long-term growth.
According to the tokenomics, 200 million $OORT tokens (10% of the total supply) were allocated for the founding team with a four-year release schedule. However, to better align with long-term goals, the release schedule for the founding team members has now been extended from four years to six years.
Originally, 1.3 billion $OORT tokens (65% of the total supply) were reserved for mining rewards. Of the 100 million tokens, about 50 million have already been distributed through the testnet token $CCN and early bird programs, while the remaining 50 million are reserved for witness rewards. Over the next five years, 400 million $OORT tokens will be allocated for OORT Edge node rewards.
The remaining 800 million tokens will be locked in a smart contract for five years, starting from September 15, 2024. After this lock period, 100 million tokens will be released in the first year, with a 50% reduction in the release amount each following year. For example, 50 million tokens will be released in the second year, 25 million in the third year, and so on. These tokens will remain designated for miners, and the community will have the authority to either burn the unlocked tokens or use them for further development of the OORT DePIN infrastructure.
The 400 million tokens reserved for OORT Edge mining will be released in stages, with each stage releasing half the amount of the previous one. The first stage will release 200 million tokens, during which each OORT Edge node will produce 2.875 $OORT per day. In subsequent stages, the daily output per node will be halved (e.g., 1.4375 $OORT in the second stage).
Once all tokens in a stage are distributed, the system will automatically transition to the next stage. Assuming there are 100,000 active nodes, the first stage is estimated to last approximately 695.65 days (or about two years), after which the rewards will be halved. If the node count is lower, such as 50,000, the halving cycle will extend to roughly four years.
